Shannon Aberton, LAT, ATC

Shannon has been a certified athletic trainer since 1995. She worked with the University of Colorado athletic department immediately following her graduation in 1995 but in 1997 she was given the opportunity to work at a high school and jumped at the chance. She is currently in her 24th year as the athletic trainer at Boulder High School, and 18th as the outreach coordinator for BVSD. Her favorite part about working with high school athletes is the sense of community. The high school setting allows her to get to know not just the athletes, but their families, and the teachers and staff in the building. Another aspect that Shannon loves about the high school setting is the variety of injuries there can be on a daily basis, and working under pressure. Nothing is more exciting than having an athletic training room full of athletes that all have to be taped, treated and ready for practice in 15 minutes!

Shannon started the annual BVSD May Madness Charity Basketball Tournament which raises money for BVSD athletes who cannot afford healthcare. To date the tournament has raised over $25,000 through the Boulder Community Health Foundation and has helped numerous families throughout the Boulder Valley School District.

Shannon is a member of the Brain Injury Resource Team for BVSD, which has created and implemented a concussion policy for not just athletes, but the whole district from elementary up to high school.
