Tim Hilden, MS PT, ATC

Tim has been a member of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine team since 1998. Tim is a physical therapist, athletic trainer, and exercise physiologist. In addition to his physical therapy patient load, Tim specializes in walking and running gait analysis, golf swing analysis, and athletic training outreach activities. His interests include high-level sport rehabilitation, biomechanical evaluations, gait modification strategies, orthotic fabrication, and manual therapies. Tim is currently initiating research into the use of gait modification strategies for the treatment of running injuries.

Tim's educational background starts at South Dakota State University where he received a bachelor of science degree in biology and athletic training. His first master of science degree was in exercise physiology from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. While at S.C.S.U., Tim was involved in numerous research projects in the areas of human performance, cardiac pacemaker function, and biomechanics. Tim received his second master of science degree in physical therapy from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. While at St. Ambrose, Tim investigated the effects of gait technique on muscular activity and joint angles during retro-walking.

He previously worked as a physical therapist and athletic trainer for a sports medicine group in Bloomington, Indiana. His experience as an athletic trainer includes working with the U.S. National Luge Team during the 1992-93 World Cup season and was involved with physiological testing of the US National Biathlon Team from 1990 to 1993.

Tim is former Director of Operations for Sports Medicine Industries, Inc., a company focused on the development of physiological testing and rehabilitation equipment. His ties with SMI, Inc. have allowed CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center access to a specialized upper body ergometer that provides sport-specific physiological testing of Nordic skiers.

Tim's personal athletic interests include water-skiing, alpine skiing, golf, weightlifting, and cycling.
